Test Procedure for Air Permeability of Textile Fabrics

Air permeability is an important factor in the performance of such textile materials as gas filters, fabrics for air bags, clothing, mosquito netting, parachutes, sails, tentage, and vacuum cleaners. In filtration, for example, efficiency is directly related to air permeability. Air permeability also can be used to provide an indication of the breathability of weather-resistant and rainproof fabrics, or of coated fabrics in general, and to detect changes during the manufacturing process.

Air Permeability Testing Apparatus accurately and swiftly determines the resistance of fabrics (woven, knitted and nonwoven textile) to the passage of air (air flow) under constant pre-set air pressure while firmly clamped in the test rig of selected test head/area. The air permeability of the fabric is calculated automatically within a short time.

Air Permeability Test Procedure
1 Test the conditioned specimens in the standard atmosphere for testing textiles, which is 21 +/- 1°C (70 +/- 2°F) and 65 +/- 2 % relative humidity, unless otherwise specified in a material specification or contract order.
2 Handle the test specimens carefully to avoid altering the natural state of the material.
3 Place each test specimen onto the test head of the test instrument, and perform the test as specified in the manufacturer’s operating instructions.Place coated test specimens with the coated side down (towards low pressure side) to minimize edge leakage.
4 Make tests at the water pressure differential specified in a material specification or contract order. In the absence of a material specification or contract order, use a water pressure differential of 125 Pa (12.7 mm or 0.5 in. of water).
5 Read and record the individual test results in SI units as cm^3/s/cm^2 and in inch-pound units as ft^3/min/ft^2 rounded to three significant digits.
FPIQ 10.5.1 For special applications, the total edge leakage underneath and through the test specimen may be measured in a separate test, with the test specimen covered by an airtight cover, and subtracted from the original test result to obtain the effective air permeability.
6 Remove the tested specimen and continue as directed in 10.3-10.5 until ten specimens have been tested for each laboratory sampling unit. When a 95 % confidence level for results has been agreed upon in a material specification or contract order, fewer test specimens may be sufficient. In any event, the number of tests should be at least four.

Multi-Functional Scratch tester For automotive interior materials

Multi-Functional Scratch tester is applicable to all types of wiping performance test of automotive interior materials; test equipment integrated three domestic standards (fingers scraping method, a hundred grid method, and plastic scraping finger scraping method).         Scratch tester is an electronic instrument capable of measuring critical load, adhesion, scratch resistance and bond strength for a wide range of surfaces. Scratch tester measures the scratch resistance of a sliding and moving surface in the relative motion to a stylus. The stylus is forced/pressed against the moving surface with precise controlled force which is normal to the surface and tangential force at the contact has to be measured.         Scratch tester can be utilized for all type of industrial coating from the plasma layers used in semiconductor and optical technology used in decorative coatings used for automotive and consumer goods. Scratch tester is used in various applications such as

FMVSS 302 With Horizontal Flammability Tester

FMVSS 302 is one of the most important to crash survivability. This standard not only designates acceptable flammability characteristics of materials to be used in vehicle interiors but also outlines specifications for testing these properties and interpreting their results. By comparing their findings against the desired burn characteristics, auto manufacturers and parts suppliers can ensure their interior materials are approved for use. Test instruments : Horizontal Flammability Tester ; Test Procedure of Horizontal Flame Tester : a.Mount the specimen so that both sides and one end are held by the U-shaped frame, and one end is even with the open end of the frame. Where the maximum available width of a specimen is not more than 51 mm, so that the sides of the specimen cannot be held in the U-shaped frame, place the specimen in position on wire supports as described in S5.1.3, with one end held by the closed end of the U-shaped frame. b.Place the mounted specimen in a hori

Zipper Tester, Slide Fastener Reciprocating Tester

The Zipper Tester, also known as a Slide Fastener Reciprocating Tester, is a specialized device used to test the durability and functionality of zippers or slide fasteners. It is commonly used in the textile, garment, and bag manufacturing industries to ensure the quality of zippers used in various products. The tester simulates the repeated opening and closing actions that zippers undergo during normal usage. It evaluates the zipper's resistance to wear and tear, as well as its ability to withstand the repetitive movements and forces applied during regular operation. The Zipper Tester typically consists of a testing chamber or fixture, where the zipper is securely clamped. The tester applies a controlled reciprocating motion to the zipper slider, repeatedly opening and closing the zipper according to predefined parameters, such as cycle count and speed. During the testing process, the machine measures various performance parameters, including the force required to open and close t
